About Us
Stourbridge Running club are a friendly club based at the Stourbridge War Memorial Ground (also home to Stourbridge Football Club and Stourbridge Cricket Club) on the A491 in Amblecote. We meet there to run every Monday and Wednesday at 6.45pm in readiness to run at 7:00pm.
After running on a Wednesday evening we use the Cricket Club bar which is a good place to meet the runners in other groups, to find out what races are happening locally and to make new friends. In the summer months our training runs take place as much as possible off-road but in the winter we generally run around the local streets.
People join for a lots of different reasons. Maybe you’re fed up of running on your own and would like some company, or just want to meet some new people. You could be training for an event or have a specific goal in mind. Or you may just want to learn some new routes to run in the local area. Whatever your reasons, we pride ourselves on being friendly and welcoming to all.
We also think our membership offers great value for money with 2 club runs per week, track sessions, club races and access to the bar and facilities at the cricket club all included in the membership fee.
Pace Groups
On a Monday and Wednesday we usually split up into around 7 pace groups, for example:
Pace | Distance | Duration |
Beginners/returners, pace to suit group | 2 – 3 miles | 35-45 minutes |
11 minutes per mile | 3 – 5 miles | 45-50 minutes |
10:30 minutes per mile | 4 – 5 miles | 45-50 minutes |
10 minutes per mile | 6 miles | 1 hour |
9 minute per mile | 7 miles | 1 hour |
8 – 8:30 minutes per mile | 7 – 8 miles | 1 hour |
7 – 7:30 minutes per mile | 8 – 9 miles | 1 hour |
Track Sessions
Track sessions have recently been (re)introduced. These take place every other Friday evening throughout the year at the Dell stadium track. The sessions are generally based around interval training and are planned and ran by Mark. They have been designed to be suitable for all abilities and everyone is welcome to attend. And if you don’t want to follow the session then you’re welcome to just use the track to do your own thing.
Even better, the cost of these is including in your club membership.
Announcements will be made on Wednesdays before the run, and the dates are also posted on our Facebook page and sent via e-mail.

New Members
If you are interested in coming along, please feel free to email us or simply turn up on a Monday or Wednesday.
A map centred on the entrance to the ground can be found here
If approaching from the Stourbridge direction, leave the ring road by following signs to Dudley then as you rise up the hill continue past the church, through the traffic lights and the ground is on the left.
If approaching on the A491 from the Dudley/Kingswinford direction continue past the Ruby Chinese restaurant and the Magnet showroom and the ground is on the right just before the traffic lights (by the church).
You can park on the main car park which is reached through the archway at the entrance to the ground. Then walk into the main part of the ground to the left of the turnstyles. Then bear right and head along the road towards the building in front. This is the cricket club where we congregate. Before we head off at 7pm, there will be some announcements made and the group leaders for that night will be identified. We are happy for you to attend on a Monday and Wednesday for a short time before signing up as a club member; it’s important for you to feel comfortable with us before you commit yourself.
